"The Teammates" commemorates four Boston Red Sox players: Ted Williams, left fielder; Bobby Doerr, second baseman; Johnny Pesky, short stop; and Dom DiMaggio, center fielder. Friends on and off the field, they played together for seven seasons, and led the Sox to the American League championship in 1946. Their story is recounted in the book "The Teammates, A Portrait of Friendship," by David Halberstam (2003). Their group portrait in bronze, displayed here in the city, is the work of the sculptor Antonio Tobias Mendez. It was dedicated in 2010.
