Description:
The Peace Garden in Egleston Square is a memorial to the neighborhood’s youngsters who died through street violence. The garden was created by community volunteers, one of whose projects was the murals. The six murals were created by young artists under the direction of Roberto Chao. The panels, each one 8 feet by 10 feet, commemorate individuals and communities devoted to bringing peace to the world. Hung side by side on a long wall, they make an impressive display. Work on the Peace Garden was started on a vacant lot in Egleston Place in 2002. It is a continuing community endeavor.
