Description:
The so-called “Flying Fish” that sits on top of Legal Sea Food’s headquarters is really the abstract rendition of a New England cod. Twenty-eight feet tall and forty-five feet long the artwork is visible from the harbor, and serves boaters not only as a landmark, but as a weather station, too. The fish’s eight scales rotate to show wind direction, and the lights in its thirty-inch eye changes colors to show wind force as measured by the Marine Beaufort Scale. The fish is the creation of sculptor and lighting designer David Tonnesen.
